Due to some complaints from local restaurants (unfounded?), the powers that be moved the start time for Winterskol's Soupskol from 5 pm to 4 pm. While the change meant that a lot of locals (for whom the event is supposed to be held) can't attend, it also meant that we were tasting soup in the daylight. A loss of atmosphere but a bit of a gain for warmth.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 am for 3 Widespread Panic shows at Belly Up Aspen and the line for tickets started forming this morning. These are some really dedicated fans because not only are tickets $350, but the low tonight is forecasted to be 10 degrees. I wonder if they're prepared for that.

peony roots that Samuel Wade brought with him to Colorado in 1881 which inspired him to submit the Latin name for peony, "Paeonia," as a town name. The post office wouldn't allow the extra vowel, so Paeonia became Paonia. The full name of the flower: "Paeonia mascula"

The view from the Azura Winery on Garvin Mesa in Paonia, Colorado. Paonia is 45 miles from Aspen as the crow flies and 89 miles for those of us who are earthbound. There are 5 tasting rooms in Paonia (plus a brewery) and a total of 9 in the Paonia area. We spent the day doing the wine tour and ran into several other visitors from the Aspen area.
